BIOGRAPHY
of Guner OZKAN
H. Guner OZKAN is retaired from director of the
State Classical Turkish Music Ensemble in Izmir.
He graduated from the Ataturk Art Institute with
an Art Education degree in 1970. and received his
M.S. degree in Ceramic Studies from the Escula de
Ceramica de Madrid in Spain in 1975. Upon his
return to Turkey he became an instructor in the
Art Department of Ankara University. His works
have been included in over ten art exhibitions in
Turkey and Spain.
He is a noted autority on the ancient musical
instruments of Turkey. He has traveled throughout
the country, visiting the Nomadic peoples of the
mountainous areas as well as many remote villages
to study how the instruments are made and used,
and has reported on his field studies at
international conferences of musicologists. He has
specialized in constucting these instruments in
their original shapes and following traditional
hand-craft techniques.
